Business Travel Tips

Travel can be stressful, from lost baggage to just being away from home. The Dreamhouse team have compiled their top travel tips gained from years of frequent travel to help your next business trip run as smoothly as possible.

Lost baggage

Whether due to connecting flights or a mistake at check-in, lost baggage is something most frequent travellers have had to deal with at some point. We recommend taking pictures of your suitcase and the items within to help identify your case and, if it comes to it, speeding up the process of being reimbursed. We would also recommend packing a change of clothes and toothbrush in your hand luggage.

Keep things organised

Have all of your travel information, from accommodation information to car hire documentation, in one easy to access place. Taking point one into account, we would suggest keeping important documents with you at all times. Whilst the majority of airlines and train companies now provide digital tickets, we always try to keep a printed version just in case technical difficulties are encountered. Better safe than sorry!

Travel light

We find that stress levels and size of case are directly linked. Especially when navigating a new city, carrying a bulky, heavy suitcase can be uncomfortable and is usually unnecessary. Even the act of hauling your case into a car can be a stressful experience, so when packing always ask yourself: Do I really need this? Half the time, the answer will be ‘no’.

Book your seat

Whether picking your seat on a plane or booking train seats, if the option to select your own is there, take it. Travelling in comfort makes all the difference and, if something like going backwards on a train or sitting in an aisle seat makes you feel queasy, your trip can be instantly improved by taking those few extra seconds to pre-select your seat.

Get through security quickly

There are a number of ways to speed up the airport security process. Firstly, make sure you’re wearing easy to remove shoes and have any liquids pre-packed in clear bags. Secondly, don’t look at the length of the queue; look at how quickly the security agent is working – if they’re moving twice as fast as the next person, that’s the queue to jump into. Last but certainly not least, try to get into a queue of business professionals and avoid families with young children, this can save a lot of time and stress.

Keep it clean

Avoid that sticky travel feeling by having sanitiser and hand wipes with you. This helps you to arrive at your destination feeling fresh and ready for the day ahead.

Be prepared for your arrival

Get to know the place before you arrive to avoid confusion about the best way to reach your accommodation, the quickest form of transport to get you to that meeting on time and simple things like where to pick up a bit to eat. To help you with this, we have prepared guides for all of our locations which you can find on the blog.
