Glasgow has been a popular location in the past for large and small conferences and international events. This is owing to the variety of venues, accommodation and facilities the city has to offer.

The city of Glasgow is home to the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre (SECC) which was opened officially by HM the Queen in November 1985.

The SECC is located north of the river Clyde in Finnieston to the west of Glasgow City Centre. The venue occupies 64 acres of land and has various “halls” including the Clyde Auditorium which is known affectionately by locals as the “Armadillo”. This is due to the unusual shape of the building and what it adds to the Glasgow skyline.

Festive Events

The city of Glasgow hosts a number of events throughout the festive season. This begins with the switch on of the Christmas lights in George Square in late November. George Square is turned into a winter wonderland with outdoor ice-skating, amusements and events all taking place throughout December.

St Enoch Square is home to the Christmas Market, where visitors can browse the stalls to find Christmas gifts.
